When what you're protecting outgrows a safe, the next step is a protected room. Three ways to get there — and what each one actually involves.
Vault doors
The highest-value upgrade for a room you already have: a plate-steel, fire-rated door mounted into a reinforced opening turns a concrete closet, basement corner, or under-stair space into a walk-in vault. Available in in-swing (door opens into the room — works where exterior clearance is tight, and can be opened even if something falls against the outside) and out-swing (maximizes interior space) configurations, with internal releases so no one can be locked inside.

When there's no concrete room to convert, modular panel systems assemble a rated enclosure inside an existing space — common for pharmacies, cash rooms, and collections. Panels, ceiling, and door arrive engineered as a system, so the rating applies to the room as a whole, not just the door.
Reinforced safe rooms
A storm- or intrusion-resistant room built into the structure — typically a framed and hardened closet or interior room with a vault door as its entry. Alpine Safes supplies the door and the planning guidance; the structural work (slab anchoring, framing, ventilation) is executed by your contractor to the door manufacturer's specs.

The opening decides everything
Vault doors are sized to a rough opening and need a structurally sound surround — typically poured concrete or filled, reinforced block. We'll confirm the spec sheet for your door before you pour or frame.
Swing direction
In-swing doors suit tight hallways and storm-shelter use; out-swing preserves floor space inside. Door clearance and approach space decide it more often than preference does.
Fire and burglary ratings
Vault doors carry their own fire ratings and construction specs, published per model. The room's overall protection is only as good as its weakest surface — which is why modular systems rate the whole enclosure.
Delivery and installation
Vault doors ship freight like our largest safes (several hundred pounds and up). Plan the path from curb to opening, and have your installer review the manufacturer's mounting instructions before delivery day.
